If you want a spray tan for your wedding, it is important to do this at the right time.
Just like everything else surrounding your wedding, it's all about properly planning the appointment and all the treatments surrounding it. You want to look your best at your wedding, with a beautiful glow, and definitely not look like a carrot.
Order of beauty treatments
- Wax your body at least 48 hours in advance.
- Get your spray tan applied two days in advance. This gives you plenty of time for your tan to develop.
- You can schedule a manicure before or after your appointment.
- You should get a pedicure before your spray tan. Exfoliating can cause your spray tan to wear off.
- You should have your eyebrows laminated before your tan to prevent a chemical reaction from your spray tan. This also applies to tinting, waxing, or plucking your eyebrows.
- It is best to schedule facials, peels and other (facial) treatments before your spray tan.
Before the appointment
Before you go to your spray tan appointment, it's important to do a little preparation. What can you expect? And what can you do to ensure you enjoy your tan for as long as possible? On this page, we'd like to introduce you to the world of spray tanning. Let's start at the beginning: what can you do before your spray tan appointment?
Before the appointment
Do's + Don'ts
Do
EXFOLIATE: Exfoliate 6-24 hours beforehand. This creates a smooth canvas, which in turn allows you to enjoy your tan longer.
HAIR REMOVAL: If you haven't had your hair removed by laser or waxing, shave at least 6-24 hours beforehand, depending on your skin. Waxing should be done at least 48 hours beforehand.
MANI + PEDI: Make sure you've had a pedicure before your appointment. Products used during a pedicure can affect your spray tan. A manicure can also be done afterward.
BEFORE THE WEDDING: Get your spray tan 2-3 days before your wedding.
CLOTHING: It's important to wear loose-fitting clothing to your appointment. Wear loose, dark cotton, breathable fabric, oversized clothing, something with minimal stitching, and open-toed shoes, such as flip-flops.
HYDRATE: And we're not talking about the skin itself, although you should certainly take good care of it, but we're talking about, yes... drinking water! Drinking water also affects your spray tan. If you don't drink enough water, the tan will develop less darkly and quickly on your skin.
DRY SPOTS: Do you have dry spots or perhaps acne? Please let us know in advance so we can take this into account. A small amount of moisturizer can then be applied to these areas to prevent them from becoming visible.
Don't
BIKINI: The first time can be a bit nerve-wracking, so it's understandable that you might prefer to wear a bikini during your spray tan. Be sure to consider the shape of your wedding dress. If you've chosen a wedding dress with a low-cut back or strapless, make sure there are no straps visible after your spray tan. It's best to wear only bikini bottoms during your spray tan.
CLOTHING: Do not wear tight pants/shirts, silk, satin, leather or lycra to your appointment.
CHEMICALS: Do not wear moisturizer, makeup, perfume, or deodorant to your appointment. This can affect the color of your tan. Also, do not use body wash with strong ingredients.
Fragrance that's creamy or contains a lot of chemicals. Any foaming substance will stay on your skin.

The first appointment
Preparation really is the most important thing.
It's best to schedule your first spray tan appointment at least 3-4 weeks before your wedding. Alternatively, schedule your appointment around the time you're trying on your wedding dress for the final time. You want to be sure a spray tan suits you and your dress.
Perhaps you're not completely satisfied with your tan after the spray tan. In that case, there's still plenty of time to discuss this and adjust it if necessary.
Most spray tan artists use products that won't turn you orange. They'll ensure you get a beautiful sun-kissed glow and only use products that work best for you.
After the appointment
Do's + Don'ts
Do
SHOWER: If you have a spray tan that needs to be rinsed off after a certain amount of time, make sure you do this in time. If you don't, your tan may become too dark or look less beautiful.
As soon as you shower, make sure to rub your hands thoroughly over your body. This will prevent white streaks. If lines do appear, they're usually from excess cosmetic bronzer, not from a streaky spray tan.
After your second shower, you can use a natural body wash. Want a darker/deeper tan? Wait another day before doing this.
DEVELOPING: After your first shower, you'll notice your tan is less dark. This is normal, so don't be alarmed. Over the next 24 hours, the spray tan will continue to develop and darken.
MOISTURIZER: Make sure you continue to take good care of your skin after your second shower.
FIRST 24 HOURS: Do not swim, exercise, get a massage, have a pedicure, facial, etc. for the first 24 hours.
DRY: Pat your skin dry with a towel after showering to minimize chafing from rubbing. This will help your tan last longer.
HYDRATE: We can't emphasize this enough, but drink plenty of water! The better you hydrate your body, the longer your tan will last.
SPORTS: Going to the gym the day after your spray tan? Take a shower beforehand. This prevents the acids in sweat from discoloring your tan.
Don't
MOISTURIZER: After your first shower, it's best not to use moisturizer. Do apply it after your second shower.
SHOWER: Try not to shower too long or too hot. It's better to take short, warm showers.
SHOWER PRODUCTS: Don't use shower gel or other shower products during your first shower. Don't use any soap on your body at all. Soap can affect your tan and dry out your skin.
TOUCH-UPS: Want to maintain a beautiful tan after your wedding? Don't forget to schedule touch-ups.
EXFOLIATE: Don't scrub too hard after your spray tan. This can strip the spray tan from your skin.
SUNSUNSCREEN: Don't forget your sunscreen! Even though you now have a tan, you can still get burned. A spray tan doesn't contain SPF, so don't forget to apply sunscreen.
